Portable two-axis automated training system

Automated Targeting Squash Ball Launcher

Designed and built a portable automated squash-ball launcher with two-axis targeting, variable shot speed, and programmable positioning. The 28 lb prototype achieved ±2 in targeting accuracy while substantially reducing mass and prototype cost compared with commercial systems.

Prototype Overview

I designed and built an automated squash-ball launcher to create a lighter, more portable alternative to commercial training machines. The system uses paired flywheels for ball acceleration, a pneumatic pusher to feed balls into the wheels, and a motorized two-axis aiming mechanism for automated shot placement.

The final prototype weighed 28 lb and was built for approximately $1,200.

Project documentation is limited because Blair Academy maintained strict restrictions on student phone use during the school day, when most fabrication, assembly, and testing took place.

Result

Built and tested a 28 lb automated launcher capable of two-axis targeting, variable shot speed, ±2 in front-wall accuracy, and sub-0.85 s full-range repositioning.
